Language Atlas
The languages big tech skips, in one table.
The DeepTranslate Language Atlas covers regional European languages. For each one it shows where the language is spoken, whether DeepL and Google support it, and whether DeepTranslate runs it in production, tests it in the lab or offers it on request. As of October 2026, 15 of the 24 regional EU languages have no DeepL or Google API at all.

Which Arabic varieties are in development?
Most engines treat Arabic as one language, Modern Standard Arabic. Newsrooms in Europe serve audiences who speak very different spoken varieties. We are building support for these.
| Variety | Also called | Main European audiences |
|---|---|---|
| Moroccan Arabic | Also called: Darija | Main European audiences: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain |
| Algerian Arabic | Also called: Darja | Main European audiences: France, Belgium |

| Egyptian Arabic | Also called: Masri | Main European audiences: Italy, Germany, France |
| Levantine Arabic | Also called: Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian, Jordanian | Main European audiences: Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark |
| Iraqi Arabic | Also called: Mesopotamian Arabic | Main European audiences: Germany, Sweden, Finland |
| Gulf Arabic | Also called: Khaleeji | Main European audiences: Business and media links across Europe |
| Sudanese Arabic | Also called: Sudani | Main European audiences: Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands |
Status: in development. Not yet available for pilots. Tell us which variety you need, it shapes what we build first.

Why is listed not the same as ready?
A language on a supported list can still fail on air. Zero-shot models drift from the source, drop names and change numbers.
That is why every row links to evidence, and every language without data says so.
Frequently asked questions
Does DeepL support Luxembourgish?
Yes. DeepL lists Luxembourgish for translation, but as of October 2026 it offers no glossaries for it. Google Cloud Translation also lists Luxembourgish. Listed does not mean ready for broadcast, which is why we test on your content first.
Which regional European languages have no machine translation in DeepL or Google?
As of October 2026, 15 of the 24 regional EU languages we track are in neither the DeepL API nor the Google Cloud Translation API, among them Upper Sorbian, Northern Sámi, Sardinian, Friulian and Low German.
What does In production mean?
The language runs for a paying broadcaster in daily output. Today that is Luxembourgish, translated into French, German and English for RTL Lëtzebuerg.
Can you add a language that is not on the list?
Often, yes. We start with a blind test on your content and tell you honestly what it takes before any pilot.
